We have been saying for years now that it’s important to cover your violations. Covering those infractions of the rules will give you and your partner(s) control of the game. We’ve pointed out examples like traveling or illegal dribbles, but there’s more. French referee ace Nicolas Maestre has made a great series called Lun10 Clips (Lun-dix, like lundi, french for Monday) where he covers several interesting topics. Even if you don’t understand french it’s interesting. You’ll see clips and you get the option to say it’s legal or illegal. The clip will be replayed and then you’ll see the clip again with a red traffic light (it’s illegal) or a green traffic light (it’s legal). The topleagues do benefit from the availability of IRS. But we have a feeling that IRS is not available for everybody in our community. That’s exactly why we urge everybody to dive into clips everytime you can. Watching and rewatching clips and dissecting what is really unfolding will help you recognize situations in your own games that you can judge the way they should be judged. That being said we have a clip down here where the question is: Do we have a foul and if we do, what brand of foul is it?

What have you got? -50-

The regular visitors of our site probably sometimes get tired of it, but we cannot stress enough that it is important to cover your violations. Just try it somewhere in your next game, make it a topic in pregame and discuss with your partner(s): just give it some extra attention, if only the first quarter. Just try and feel the difference. You’ll see life gets easier for you and your crewmates.

We all know that in our beloved sport the ball should be played with our hands only. Whenever you open your ears in a random gym on a game day you are bound to hear somebody screaming: Hey Ref! That was a foot-violation!
